GC volleyball wins two in tourney
NEWS HERALD (Staff ) - JACKSONVILLE - Gulf Coast won two of three matches in a tournament Friday and Saturday at Florida Community College, but will now have to wait nearly two weeks before playing again. The Commodores' home opener, scheduled for Monday against Jefferson Davis Community College from Brewton, Ala., has been canceled because of potential weather problems. Gulf Coast opened the tournament on Friday with a 22-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-1 victory over Cape Fear Community College from North Carolina. The Commodores' split a pair of matches on Saturday - losing to host FCC 25-19, 25-13, 25-12, then beating Lincoln Land Community College from Illinois in a five-set match, 14-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16, 15-10.

Highly touted recruits dot Gulf Coast men's roster
Marquez Gilstrap's life has been on fast-forward the past three months. The freshman men's basketball player moved to Panama City from Covington, Ga., in May to take summer classes. In July, he attended a basketball camp for junior college players where he was seen by Iowa State coaches. Just a few weeks ago, he verbally committed to play basketball for the Cyclones. All that before he has played one minute of basketball for the Gulf Coast Commodores.
